My name is Mattie Cox.I live and work in Nashville, TN. I am currently obtaining my (DONA)birth and postpartum doula certification. I have a BA in Studio Art with a focus in photography from the University of Northern Colorado. I specialize in film and digital photography as well as videography and also have 10+ years of nannying/childcare experience.

I created Birth in Black & White to combine my love for photography and my passion for maternal and newborn care. I started my job as a newborn photographer in 2022 and quickly fell in love with the process of bringing new life into the world. I was thirsty for knowledge about anything and everything mama and baby. That led me into birth work.

I believe that every mother is entitled to autonomy over her body and birth, as well as evidence based information so they can make most informed decisions for them and their baby. I want to empower mothers’ in their innate ability to bring souls earth side, and to meet all their babies needs. Every birth is different and every birth is valid.
